Performing certain home maintenance tasks may help prevent future problems and save you money in the long run. Weller Home Inspections, in the greater Katy, Texas area, provides the following must-do maintenance quick tips:

  • Replace the batteries in your smoke/carbon dioxide detector once a year.
  • Check your A/C filter every month and replace it when needed.
  • Have your fireplace chimney inspected and cleaned on a yearly basis.
  • Check your gutters twice a year to make sure they aren’t loose or leaky.
  • Clean out your gutters at least twice a year.
  • Vacuum your refrigerator coils two times a year.
  • Clean your kitchen sink disposal once a month. Some experts suggest using vinegar.
  • Check and clean out your dryer vent and other exhaust vents to the exterior of your home at least once a year.
  • Clean your dryer lint screen after you finish drying each load of clothes.
  • Fix cracks in your walks, driveway, and the outside of your home on a yearly basis.
  • Clean and repair your window screens once a year.
  • Check caulking around showers, bathtubs, sinks, and toilet bases and make any necessary repairs. Perform this task once a year.
  • Check your electrical outlets for potential fire hazards such as frayed wires or loose-fitting plugs. Do this at least twice a year.
  • Check your fire extinguisher on a monthly basis. Make sure that it’s fully charged, and recharge or replace if needed.
  • Clean the grease filter on your range hood at least once every two months.
  • Wash your windows at least once a year.
  • Inspect and repair your deck on a yearly basis.
